The real point is that Karzai is willing to do a deal with Dostum who last year was forced to flee the country after organising the bulldozing of an official war crimes site (see my posts of 4 Dec 2008 and 24 Jan 2009 for more background). I believe Dostum's...Chief of Staff of the Army? I believe Dostum's previous position was Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Army (I've seen several different titles), a hollow position for which he got a uniform with epaulets and zero command authority within the ANA. But he and his friends may well have said he was Chief of Staff. Of course this title has a certain symbolism to it.Christiannoreply@blogger.com
